Google Cloud Hosting Review

Google is the most popular search engine in the world. This search engine connects people by allowing them to find and share information.

However, there is more to Google than many people know.

Google offers various other services beyond its search function. Google Cloud provides hosting services that allow you to deploy websites and applications.

Their hosting service uses the same cloud-based infrastructure powering the company’s products like Gmail, Google Drive, Google Photos, and more.

With their hosting service, your website data will be stored on remote servers, making your content easily accessible to your visitors.

If you are looking to create and deploy your website in a secure space or change your hosting provider, I recommend you consider Google Cloud.

However, before making that vital decision, you must know the platform and what it offers, which is what I am here to do.

Google Cloud offers dozens of services, which I will not cover here.

My focus would be on the company’s services you can use to host your website or run your CMS and e-commerce platforms like WordPress, Magento, WooCommerce, Drupal, etc.

So, without wasting more time, let me walk you through what you need to know about Google Cloud hosting.

About Google Cloud Hosting

Google Cloud Hosting Review

Google Cloud is a division of Google – one of the leading tech companies in the world.

Founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1998, Google has evolved from a humble search engine to a global tech giant. The company has revolutionized the digital space with its innovative services and products.

Google Cloud offers a wide range of services, one of which is web hosting service. Their hosting service is built into the larger Google Cloud console.

The service allows you to manage many projects, including building apps, websites, storing data, and deploying your WordPress site on the cloud servers.

Google Cloud Hosting Pros and Cons

Being one of the world’s largest and oldest tech companies does not make Google perfect. Like many companies, Google Cloud also has its ups and downs.

I believe it is essential to know the strengths and limitations of a hosting provider before making your final call. This will help you know if they are reliable in the areas you need them the most.

To ensure you have all you need to make your final verdict, here are the pros and cons of using this service:

Pros

  • Cutting-Edge Technology: Google constantly invests in cutting-edge technologies, providing users access to the latest innovations, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. With its cutting-edge technology, rest assured your website will be hosted on high-performance, secure, and fast servers.
  • Excellent Performance: One of the few things that attracted me to this hosting service is its excellent performance. With their quality of services, rest assured your website or app will always function optimally and load quickly.
  • Outstanding Uptime and Availability: One key factor in the success of your website is its availability. You can have the best products or content, but none of that will matter if your visitor cannot access your site. To ensure that does not happen, Google provides outstanding uptime and availability for its services. It guarantees an uptime of 99.99%, which means absolutely minimal downtime for your site.
  • Live Migration: Another significant advantage of this hosting provider is its live migration feature. With this feature, you can move your website from other providers to theirs without downtime. You will not even notice a degradation in performance during the migration.
  • Global Network: Google Cloud has data centers across the globe that allows you to serve your users and customers with enhanced user experiences and low latency.
  • Free Uptime Monitoring: Google Cloud provides free uptime monitoring services to keep an eye on the availability and infrastructure of your website. This service keeps track of your hosting setup and alerts you of any outages. This allows you to respond quickly and handle the situation to minimize downtime.

Cons

  • Learning Curve: Google Cloud has a wide variety of features and services. Getting used to the platform’s offerings might take some time and a learning curve. Some newbies might even need help to find their way around.
  • A Bit Pricey: Google Cloud services are relatively more expensive than other hosting providers. This can be a significant downside for small businesses and individuals with limited budgets.
  • Fewer Software Options: Despite having many features, Google Cloud has fewer software options than AWS. If you compare both platforms side-by-side, you will find that Google Cloud lacks more hosting services and software than AWS.

Google Cloud Hosting Services

Google Cloud Hosting offers a comprehensive suite of services designed to meet the diverse needs of businesses.

Whether you want to create a blog, portfolio, or e-commerce store, Google Cloud has the right service for you. Here are the various web hosting services they offer:

1. Compute Engine

Google Cloud Hosting Review

Google Cloud Compute Engine is a powerful IaaS service that you can use to build and manage virtual machines in the cloud.

This service gives you full control over your virtual machine instances, including choosing your preferred operating system, customizing the hardware, and installing your preferred software.

You can use this service to run apps that require higher computational resources or have specific hardware requirements.

Compute Engine offers high-performance virtual machines, robust networking capabilities, and the ability to scale resources up or down as needed, ensuring optimal performance and cost efficiency.

2. WordPress on Compute Engine

This service comes pre-configured, you just have to click to deploy. With WordPress on Compute Engine, you can deploy WordPress on Google Cloud with many hosting options.

You can use this service to create blogs, simple websites, portfolios, and more.

It is best for low to medium-traffic websites and open-source content management systems. Your WordPress website will run on a single virtual machine on Google Compute Engine.

Google will handle the updates and security of your website, so rest assured your website’s data will always be safe and protected.

The deployment takes only a few minutes, so you can get your site up and running in no time.

Google does not offer support for this solution. Nevertheless, community support is available where you can ask questions and find solutions to your WordPress-related issues.

3. Dynamic Website Hosting

If you are looking to build and deploy dynamic websites, Google Cloud has the right service for you – Dynamic website hosting.

This service allows you to create, deploy, and operate a simple dynamic site using responsive web frameworks. Besides dynamic websites, you can use this service to build and host e-commerce websites.

After signing up, you can deploy your website through the Google Cloud console or GitHub.

Here’s a quick one for those unfamiliar with dynamic websites.

A dynamic website is a site that changes as you interact with it. These types of websites can show real-time inventory or personalization by users.

4. Ecommerce Web App

Google Cloud also offers a service you can use to build and run simple ecommerce apps for retail organizations.

You can also use this service to build microservice-based ecommerce and API-based dynamic web applications.

Google Cloud’s ecommerce web app is for developers, students, and new Cloud users. This service also lets you set up your ecommerce web app with a geographically distributed user base.

One of the reasons I like this service is it lets you add on the necessary ecommerce functionalities, such as inventory management, product reviews, shopping carts, wish lists, various payment options, shipping options, and more.

Google Cloud Plans and Pricing

Google Cloud provides flexible pricing plans designed to meet individual business needs. The prices for their plans are determined by several factors, such as networking, storage space, compute resources, and additional services.

You can choose from predefined plans or a customized solution based on what you need. Here are their various plans and prices:

1. WordPress on Cloud Engine

You can deploy WordPress to a single Compute Engine instance. It allows you to customize the configuration after deploying the solution.

The estimated monthly total of this plan is $13.17. For that amount, you will get 20 GB of standard persistent disk storage, 1 shared vCPU, and 2 GB of RAM.

Google Click to Deploy does not charge a usage fee, so you’re getting this for free. Google Cloud also offers new customers a free trial.

2. Google Cloud Compute Engine

I really like the fact that Google allows you to jump on your desired service and get started for free.

Yap, you heard me right.

You can use most of their services and run your workloads for free. This allows you to evaluate how their products perform in real-world scenarios before paying.

They have a transparent and innovative approach to pricing. Google Cloud does not have pre-configured pricing like other platforms; you have to request a quote to know how much you would pay for your desired services.

Another thing I like about this company is that they provide new customers with $300 in free credits to run, test, and deploy workloads.

All customers can use over 20 products for free, up to monthly usage limits.

With Google Cloud hosting, you will only pay for what you use – thanks to their pay-as-you-go pricing structure.

The company also took things up a notch by giving you full control over your spending. You can control your spending with budgets, quota limits, alerts, and other free cost management tools.

Google Cloud Performance

One thing that makes Google Cloud a top choice for businesses and developers looking for quality cloud infrastructure is its exceptional performance.

The platform’s performance is another thing that attracted me to it.

Google Cloud’s outstanding performance is attributed to its optimized architecture, advanced technology, and robust global network.

The platform delivers impressive performance in several areas, including:

Latency and Speed

Google Cloud positioned its data centers strategically across the globe to ensure low latency access to its services for users in different regions.

Thanks to their distributed network, you can deliver applications and content quickly to your global customer base, resulting in faster loading times and enhanced user experiences.

Additionally, the platform’s high-speed interconnects between data centers reduce data transfer delays, further enhancing application performance.

Reliability and Uptime

Google has robust redundancy measures and infrastructure to deliver high availability and reliability.

The company designed its data centers with multiple fail-safe layers to ensure that apps continue to function optimally in the event of hardware failure.

They guarantee a 99.99% uptime that often exceeds industry standards. With this, you will experience very little to no downtime. Your apps and website will always be online and accessible to your users.

Scalability

Another thing I love about this company is that they allow you to scale resources on demand.

Whether you anticipate continuous growth or experience a sudden increase in traffic, the company can allocate more resources to handle the growth.

This elasticity ensures your applications perform optimally under varying conditions, preventing performance issues and ensuring a smooth user experience.

Machine Learning

Google Cloud’s integration of machine learning services enhances application performance and user engagement.

Through pre-trained machine learning models and tools, you can incorporate intelligent features into your applications without the need for extensive expertise in AI.

This inclusion of machine learning capabilities enables personalized recommendations, natural language processing, and image recognition, among other powerful functionalities, elevating overall performance and user satisfaction.

Google Cloud Customer Support

Google Cloud provides extensive support for its customers.

I literally mean – its customers. That is because you will limited technical support unless you pay for the service.

So, if you are on their free packages, do not expect much from them,

However, the company has a lot in store for its customers. Once you’re a paying customer, they will provide you with all the resources and support you need to leverage the offerings and benefits of their infrastructure.

They provide several support levels designed to meet the needs of various businesses and developers. Here are some of the support options they offer:

Standard Support

Google Cloud offers standard support to all its customer at no extra cost. This support level includes access to forums & documentation, basic technical support, and assistance with account and billing-related inquiries.

This level of support is suitable for non-critical applications or smaller businesses.

Premium Support

If you have more demanding needs that require a higher level of technical support, Google Cloud offers Premium Support as a paid option.

With this support level, you will get direct access to support experts, faster responses, and personalized support customized to your specific needs.

This level of support is ideal for enterprises running mission-critical applications with strict service level expectations.

As part of the Premium Support package, Google assigns a dedicated Technical Account Manager (TAM) to eligible customers.

Your TAM serves as a single point of contact, providing you with personalized guidance, proactive monitoring, and assistance in optimizing the customer’s Google Cloud environment.

They can also help you facilitate communication with Google’s engineering teams for complex or escalated issues.

Knowledge Base

Like many hosting providers, Google Cloud provides a robust library of guides, tutorials, articles, and documentation.

The knowledge base has resources covering various topics, ranging from getting started with the basic features/services to best practices and advanced use cases.

I like the fact that Google continually updates their knowledge base and documentary to ensure you have access to the latest information and solutions to common problems.

Community Forum

This company also has a community forum where you can share, learn, and discuss things about the platform.

You can share your experiences and interact with other members of the community.

The forums come in handy for learning new things, troubleshooting, and gaining insight into real-world implementations.

Various Communication Channels

Another thing I like about the support system of Google Cloud is that it offers multiple communication channels.

With this, there would be no clustering of a particular communication channel, which can result in delayed responses.

You can contact the support via live chat, email, or ticketing. You can also request a call-back service, where you drop your contact details, and a Google Cloud sales specialist will contact you.

Google Cloud Features

Google Cloud stands out from its competitors because of its wide range of features and services.

This platform’s features are designed to empower businesses with secure, flexible, and innovative cloud solutions.

Here are some of the core features they offer:

1. Machine Learning and AI Services

One of the most powerful and enjoyable features of this platform is machine learning and AI. This company offers many powerful AI and machine learning services.

From pre-trained machine learning models through Google Cloud AI Platform to specialized tools like Vision AI, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Translation AI, you can integrate AI capabilities into your apps without requiring extensive expertise in data science.

These services enable personalized experiences, advanced analytics, and automation to drive innovation and insights. They come in handy in creating sophisticated website apps for various purposes.

2. Security and Compliance

Google Cloud highly prioritizes security. They have many security protocols to ensure your apps, websites, database, and files are safe and secure.

Some of the robust security features they provide include:

  • DDoS protection
  • Firewall controls
  • At-rest and in-transit encryption
  • Identity and access management

The company also complies with various industry standards, including GDPR, SOC, and ISO. These measures are to ensure that your business meets regulatory and compliance requirements.

3. Fully Managed Services

Google Cloud offers many fully managed services. This feature gives you more time to focus on building apps/websites and innovating without worrying about managing your infrastructure.

It offers services like Cloud Datastore, Cloud Functions, and App Engine to handle tasks like load balancing, automatic scaling, and data storage.

4. One-Click Deployment

I also love Google Cloud’s one-click deployment feature. This feature allows you to deploy CMSs like WordPress or ecommerce platforms with just a few clicks.

With this, you don’t have to be an experienced user to create and deploy your website on this platform.
